LTE Users are Using Much More Mobile Data

Mobile operators continue to roll-out LTE technology.  Over 100 networks are now available to wireless subscribers around the world.  And the LTE usage trends continue to look very positive for mobile operators.  In all major markets, subscribers are using more mobile data, buying larger plans, and using more of their quotas.

And LTE users are generally using much more data than their 3G counterparts.  LTE -enabled devices and faster network speeds are no doubt encouraging more usage.  A representative view of this trend for LTE markets is displayed by Hong Kong LTE subscribers below.

King Digital Entertainment Continues to Lead Publishers in Most Popular and Most Played Mobile Games

In the hits-driven mobile gaming business, Mobidia’s research shows that King Digital Entertainment continues to leverage its widely popular Candy Crush app to drive the highest game usage among the top mobile game publishers. In general, Mobidia’s data reveals that most of the top game publishers enjoy relatively high usage and engagement metrics among smartphone users compared to other popular mobile applications, but King’s Candy Crush has driven usage of King games to a level far exceeding that of its closest competitors. However, trends in 2014 also suggest that usage of King games may be declining as usage of new games from other publishers, such as Supercell, increases.

From a sample of millions of global iOS and Android smartphone users, Mobidia’s usage data provide the following insights:

In May 2014, over 20 percent of U.S. users played a King game at least once.

Over 10 percent of U.S. users played Zynga and Supercell games in May 2014.

Among U.S. Android users, King games drove the most aggregate minutes spent in game play from January through May 2014, more than two times that of Supercell or Zynga.

Aggregate minutes of use of King games among U.S. Android users steadily declined in the first five months of 2014, while minutes of use of Supercell games increased over the same period
